If you’re like most busy people, you’ve probably got some sort of strategy or “hack” you use to get through your busy day.
Wake up, slam a large cup of coffee and get going with your day…
Hit a challenge or struggle through the day that induces stress…
Slam another coffee, or maybe pop some “helpers” to get refocused…
Then crush some beers or a glass or two of wine or whiskey in the evening to unwind.
Rinse and repeat.
The problem is these small tweaks, hacks, or whatever you want to call them…
Are all BS…
They don’t work and if they ever did…they’re a temporary relief or what I’d like to call a band aid solution.
Meanwhile, what they’re really doing is compounding the real problem.
Adding more stress to your already taxed nervous system.
You don’t have to get home from work feeling tired, drained, burnout, and sit on on the couch needing a mental reset while you mindlessly scroll your phone only to realize you lost your whole evening…
It’s possible to have a clear head that allows you to actually be present with your family, friends, be active at the gym, or agree to a social gathering.
That might sound like BS to you if you’ve tried everything already, only to find that you can’t help but think about more of your workday, your upcoming tasks you need to get done, and what’s whatever else is on your busy schedule.
I get it.
If you look back at your habits, they weren’t sustainable because you either:
– Didn’t have the knowledge to make it sustainable
– Didn’t execute it consistently or lost motivation and stopped
– Didn’t enjoy it, so you stopped doing it as soon as you hit your “target” or goal
This controls every thought, emotion and action to why you can’t be consistent due to cravings, or lose motivation.
When you’re in fight or flight with all the other stressors life throws at you, giving yourself some restrictive diet adds to that making you feel like everything you do is now an uphill battle.
If you do not look after your nervous system, you are always on a constant uphill battle against yourself and everything in life.
Linked to your nervous system, if this isn’t fixed, you continue to add more stressors onto both your mind and body.
Inflammation is caused by stressors and is the root cause of unwanted weight gain. It’s not always about eating less and more, it’s about getting the right type of food and fuel for what your mind and body need.
If your mind and body are NOT firing on all cylinders, you leave a lot on the table.
If you’re left feeling clueless on what you need to do for exercise, or have been doing the same things which resulted in little to no results, you begin to lose motivation.
Without a clear goal and intention on what you need to do and why you need to do it, it not only becomes difficult to see and feel changes, but also stay consistent.
When I was younger, I was told that once we get older and move through life, start working, or have a family, we’ll just get more busy, not have time for things we enjoy, expect to deal with overwhelm or stress and it’s all part of the natural process to “feel old” or “unhealthy”.
(Ironically, at that time, I never questioned these beliefs which led me down a similar path…)
Because I didn’t know any better, as I got older, the demand and stress from work and life caught up to me.
But I continued to lean in and just have that same mindset. When I wouldn’t get enough sleep or be well rested, I would just rely on some caffeine and pre-workout to get energized and focussed to keep pushing myself.
I gained unwanted weight around my midsection, started losing confidence about myself, so I tried multiple diets in the past, which worked for a bit, but ultimately led to the same thing…
Low energy, fatigue, and brain fog, which led to an unsustainable approach and was the very last thing I wanted, as it set me back further.
My personal relationships also struggled as I became less present and more moody with my friends, family and girlfriend at the time. It even led me to ending a relationship because of this.
With months of feeling tired, burnout, and overwhelmed…
Finally, I decided enough was enough. I was going to make one last ditch of effort to figure things out for a happier healthier life to overcome the burnout and regain control and confidence in my life.
After investing in thousands of dollars in coaching certifications and learning that regulating my nervous system, optimizing my gut health were crucial to helping me feel good…
I spent months and months iterating, testing and implementing these strategies in addition to my Personal Training background to my in person and online coaching clients.
